Arthur B. Reeve

Arthur Benjamin Reeve (1880–1936) was an American mystery writer best known for creating Professor Craig Kennedy, the scientific detective at the center of a long-running series. Reeve paired Kennedy with newspaper reporter Walter Jameson, who served as the stories’ observing companion. Across 18 detective novels, the series combined crime-solving with an interest in scientific methods and contemporary technology.
Reeve’s books made Kennedy a familiar figure in early twentieth-century popular fiction; the character was sometimes promoted as “the American Sherlock Holmes.”
