Charles LaSalle
Charles Louis Lassell (1894–1958), professionally known as Charles LaSalle, was an American illustrator and painter. He trained in art in the Boston area and worked across commercial illustration, magazine art, and book covers. His illustrations appeared in general-interest publications as well as popular fiction magazines.
During the pulp era LaSalle painted covers for titles including Western Story, Adventure, and other adventure and western magazines. His work also extended to advertising and outdoor subjects, and he taught drawing with charcoal. The range of assignments reflects a career that moved between mainstream illustration and the specialized visual market for pulp fiction.
