Gayle Porter Hoskins
Gayle Porter Hoskins (1887–1962) was an American illustrator and painter. He began drawing professionally as a teenager and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before continuing his training with Howard Pyle in Wilmington, Delaware. His early published illustrations appeared in Red Book in 1907.
Hoskins worked in books and mainstream magazines before becoming a prolific pulp illustrator. He painted covers and produced story illustrations for western and adventure titles, including Western Story and Top-Notch. His career ranged from popular magazine art to book illustration, and his training under Pyle helped shape a practice rooted in narrative scene-making.
