Joe Kubert (1926–2012) was a Polish-born American comic-book artist, teacher, and school founder. He began working in comics as a teenager and developed a long career as an illustrator, editor, and storyteller. For DC Comics, he became closely identified with characters and series including Hawkman and Sgt. Rock, bringing expressive line work and energetic page design to war and adventure comics.
Kubert also helped shape later generations of comic artists through the school he founded in Dover, New Jersey, now known as the Joe Kubert School. Alongside his teaching, he continued to draw, write, and edit comics and graphic novels.
