Bruno Fischer
Bruno Fischer (1908–1992) was a German-born American crime and weird-fiction writer. His family emigrated to the United States in 1913. Before turning to fiction full time, he worked as a sports reporter, rewrite man, and police reporter for the Long Island Daily Press. He began writing professionally in 1936 and contributed hundreds of stories to magazines under his own name and the pseudonym Russell Gray.
Fischer’s first hardcover mystery, So Much Blood, appeared in 1939. His recurring private investigator Ben Helm debuted in The Dead Men Grin (1945). After leaving pulp and hardcover fiction in the early 1950s, Fischer became an editor at Collier Books and Arco Publishing; he left writing in 1969.
