Donald Wandrei
Donald Albert Wandrei (1908–1987) was an American writer, poet, and editor whose fiction ranged across science fiction, fantasy, and weird fiction. He published stories in prominent genre magazines, including Weird Tales and Astounding Stories, and also placed work in Esquire. His writing helped define the literary side of pulp-era speculative fiction, moving between supernatural horror and imagined scientific futures.
Wandrei was the older brother of writer and artist Howard Wandrei. He was also one of the founders of Arkham House, the publishing company established to preserve and issue the work of H.P. Lovecraft and other authors of weird fiction. Alongside his fiction and poetry, his editorial and publishing work supported a readership for supernatural literature beyond its original magazine appearances.
