Murray Leinster

Murray Leinster was the pen name of William Fitzgerald Jenkins (1896–1975), an American writer of genre fiction, especially science fiction. He published more than 1,500 short stories and articles over a long career. His work appeared in pulp magazines and helped connect early speculative storytelling with the later science-fiction magazine and paperback markets.
Leinster wrote stories, novels, and articles across multiple genres, but he is particularly remembered for inventive science-fiction premises and accessible adventure. Among his best-known stories is “A Logic Named Joe,” an early imagining of networked personal computers. He received the first Hugo Award for Best Novelette for “Exploration Team” in 1956.
